Ali Khan, Pakistan, ICC T20 World Cup 2024

USA pacer Ali Khan has spoken about the possible reasons why Pakistan lost to the USA in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Ali Khan feels the USA Team did not do anything special and Pakistan lost because of their wrong attitude during the match.

According to Ali Khan, Pakistan didn't play attacking cricket and took the USA team lightly. Pakistan lost to the USA in their opening game of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 which can be dubbed as the biggest upset for Pakistan in T20 World Cup.

USA, an amateur team that played in the T20 World Cup 2024 for the first time, defeated Pakistan to script history. However, the match was a close-fought encounter that went into the Super Over when the USA put up a massive target to deny Pakistan any chance of victory.

Also, Pakistan pacer Mohammad Amir bowled multiple wides in his super over, which was another reason for Pakistan's defeat in the game. However, as we say in Cricket, a defeat by even 1 run is a defeat and the USA pulled up a match to remember USA fans under the leadership of Indian-American cricket Monank Patel.
Watch: Ali Khan feels Pakistan took the USA lightly in ICC T20 World Cup 2024
Ali Khan was one of the members of the USA Team in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 and also played in the match. During a chat with Pakistan journalist Nauman Niaz and former Pakistan cricketer Rashid Latif, Ali Khan revealed possible reasons behind Pakistan's defeat.

Ali Khan, who was born in Pakistan, said that Pakistan is a strong team that can defeat any team on their day. However, they did not play attacking cricket against them.

"I think if you look at Pakistan team, they have the power to destroy you and get demolished themselves. So that is what happened that day that they fell themselves. It was a lucky thing for us and it was a very special day for us. Our belief was bigger than that they took us lightly," said Ali Khan in the video on X. Have a look at the complete video below.

"Intent nazar nahi aayi unke batters se. Powerplay wo bohot slow khele. Only Fakhar Zaman showed intent as he hit the first-ball six. Overall, Pakistan didn't play attacking cricket and they got into a shell."
Monank Patel scored fifty against Pakistan to lead the chase
Talking about the match, Pakistan piled up a mammoth total of 159-7 in 1st innings. The Men-in-Green could not come up with a good batting show at Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas. Babar Azam and Shadab Khan scored 44 and 40 as none of the batters managed to post a fifty.

Later, USA skipper Monank Patel, Andries Gous, and Aaron Jones helped the USA to tie the game with their 50, 35, and 36 respectively. Nitish Kumar also played a significant role by hitting a boundary off the final over when the USA needed 5 runs for victory.

The match went into the final over and Pakistan's players were already under pressure with the tied game with an inferior team like the USA. Later, the USA won the match in the Super over to hit the headlines in all newspapers and TV channels across the United States of America.

Nitish Rana

Out-of-favour India batsman Nitish Rana has opened up on his tough maiden series in international cricket. After impressing in domestic cricket and in IPL, the Kolkata Knight Riders finally earned his maiden call-up from the Indian team for the tour of Sri Lanka in 2021.

However, the left-handed batsman had a forgettable debut series in international cricket as he failed to get going in all the three games that he played. Nitish Rana played two T20Is and one ODI on the tour and could not even reach the double-digit mark in any of the three games. In the two T20Is, he scored 9 and 6 while in the only that he played, he scored 7.

He was soon dropped from the team and is yet to earn a recall. The southpaw has managed to perform well in the IPL but has not really managed to impress the selectors. In fact, he is not even considered for selection as he has not been able to find a place in the second-string sides either.
Nitish Rana opens up on the Sri Lanka tour:
Nitish Rana recently recalled the tour of Sri Lanka in an interview with podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia. The KKR star revealed that he was struggling mentally after the disastrous beginning to his international career and the only player who stood by him during that tough time was none other than Rishabh Pant.

Rana revealed that Pant had called him after the series and that the very phone call changed his life. He recalled how Pant managed to help him overcome the tough phase by reminding him that he had managed to realize his dream of donning the Indian jersey. Rana also said that he had started doubting himself but managed to overcome that phase after the conversation with Pant.

"I was selected for the tour of Sri Lanka. It was a pretty bad series for me. There was only one guy (Rishabh Pant) in the cricket circle who called me after that. We talked for 18 minutes. That phone call changed my life. When you reach where you wanted to reach, and then you fail, that feeling is different. No one wants to fail," said Nitish Rana.

"I never expected that to happen. I told myself that it would've been better if I hadn't been selected at all.

"Rishabh told me, 'it was your dream to wear this jersey since you picked up the bat for the first time. And you did that. You know what you did, but from here, how you see your life is up to you. You can either fall down or work and get up again. I won't tell you that, nor I will speak about this again'.

"When you fail, you start to doubt your talent and calibre. It happens with me. I was doubting myself a lot. I started to feel, did I not deserve this at all? But Rishabh helped me clear my doubts. We don't talk about cricket, but whenever we do, it is about picking the other up. And that's called friendship," he added.

Talking about Pant, the wicketkeeper-batsman himself had a very tough phase last year after the car accident that sidelined him for more than a year. He missed the ODI World Cup at home and finally returned to action in this year's IPL. At present, he is with the Indian team for the ongoing T20 World Cup.

Tom Moody

Afghanistan, on Sunday (June 23), sent shockwaves across the cricketing world by beating Australia in the 48th game of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup.

While Afghanistan have done well in recent times, not many were expecting them to beat the reigning ODI and Test world champions. However, the Rashid Khan-led side went on to create history by powering Afghanistan to their first-ever win over Australia in any format. The Asian outfit thrashed their fancied opponents by 21 runs to keep alive their chances of qualifying for the semifinals.

Asked to bat first, Afghanistan rode on fifties from their openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran to post a challenging total of 148 for 6. In reply, Australia were bowled out for 127 runs. Even though Glenn Maxwell scored a fighting fifty, Afghanistan managed to avoid a repeat of the 2023 World Cup when the all-rounder scored a sensational double-century to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat for his side.

While Afghanistan's historic victory over Australia has surprised many, Tom Moody is definitely not one of them. The former Australia cricketer has said that it was just a matter of time before Afghanistan defeated any top team. Moody also called Afghanistan's journey in the game so far extraordinary.

"If you firstly look at Afghanistan and where they've come from and how they have grown as a cricket nation over recent years, it's quite an extraordinary curve upwards. How they're competing against all teams. A matter of time until they knocked over some of the very top teams and Australia being one of them," Tom Moody told ESPNcricinfo.
Australia, Afghanistan, India fight for semifinals spot:
Afghanistan's win over Australia has opened up Group 1 and now three teams are in contention for the two semifinal spots. Bangladesh's chances are all but over after they lost their first two Super 8 games while India, Afghanistan and Australia remain in contention.

India are currently in the driver's seat after winning their first two games and look set to make it to the semifinal even if they lose their last game against Australia. On the other hand, Australia and Afghanistan are fighting for the second spot. If both the teams manage to win their last Super 8 game, their fate will be decided by net run-rate.

Tom Moody and Australia

Former Australian cricketer Tom Moody pointed out the reason why the Mitchell Marsh-led side failed to win the game against Afghanistan in the T20 World Cup 2024. He said that the 2021 champions were poor on the field as they were at their worst.

Australia Cricket Team were at the receiving end of the 21-run thrashing at the hands of the Afghanistan National Cricket Team. The Rashid Khan-led side was magnificent with the bat and ball as they ticked almost every box and made sure that they registered their first-ever win over the opposition.

Afghanistan were asked to bat first and they were off to a magnificent start with the bat. Rahmanullah Gurbaz (60) and Ibrahim Zadran (51) did most of the carnage with the bat at the top as they added 118 runs for the opening partnership, putting Australia under pressure.

They were also helped by the slopiness of Australia on the field as well. They dropped some of the catches but after the opening partnership, they made a staggering comeback. Pat Cummins led the charge as he picked a hat-trick while Adam Zampa bagged two wickets as they restricted Afghanistan to 148/6.

It was a horrible outing for Australia with the bat. They lost wickets right from the start. Travis Head fell for a duck in the first over and after that David Warner and skipper Mitchell Marsh too couldn't make a bigger impact with the bat as they came under pressure.

Glenn Maxwell returned to form with the magnificent 59 and by the the time he was batting, it seemed that he would take the game away from Afghanistan just like he did in the 2023 World Cup. However, the introduction of Gulbadin Naib changed the course of the game. He picked 4 wickets as the Rashid Khan-led side bundled out the opposition for 127 runs to win the game by 21 runs.

Tom Moody admitted that Australia was sloppy with their fielding in the game and that cost them. While speaking to ESPNCricinfo, he explained:

"I don't think I've seen Australia field as poorly as what we saw tonight. They missed a couple of chances. Yes, there are a couple of very difficult chances, but just sloppy with general ground fielding. And to me, it's one thing that Australian cricket had a lot of pride in themselves with their fielding."
They were off the mark in the field tonight - Tom Moody
Tom Moody further pointed out how Australia ars always at the top when in the field. But with their being off the mark on the field was the main reason behind their loss in the game against Afghanistan. He added:

"They normally are the standout when it comes to those 20 overs in the field. But they were off the mark in the field tonight, which was unlike them. And ultimately, it cost them."

To stay alive in the T20 World Cup 2024, Australia will have to win their last game against India. The match will be played in Guyana on Monday (24th June).

Chris Jordan

England pacer Chris Jordan came up with a sensational performance with the ball in the ongoing game against the United States of America (USA) in the T20 World Cup 2024. The Super 8 game of the tournament between the teams is underway at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados.

Chris Jordan etched his name in the record books as he became the first England bowler to take a hat trick in T20 Internationals. He achieved the feat in the 19th over of the innings as he removed Ali Khan, Nosthush Kenjige, and Saurabh Netravalkar.

Here's the video:

View this post on Instagram

Chris Jordan started the 19th over on high as he on the first ball removed Corey Anderson. He bowled a low full toss outside off to which the batter shuffled to try and loft it over long-on. He didn't get the necessary elevation and picked out the fielder in the deep and walked back to the pavilion after scoring 29 runs.

But his best came from the third ball as he removed Ali Khan with a peach. The fast bowled a quick-length ball that was darted in. The batter stayed in the crease and played across the line, missing the ball that went on to hit the stumps.

On the 4th ball of the over, Chris Jordan trapped Nosthush Kenjige in lbw. He bowled a 141.3kph ball that was full, quick and on the target. The batter missed the flick and was hit on the front pad. Although the USA player went for DRS, it looked plumb right from the moment it hit the ball.

On the 5th ball of the over, Chris Jordan castled Saurabh Netravalkar with a 141 kmph delivery. He bowled a fuller ball to which the batter stayed leg-side to drive. He plays outside the line and gets beaten comprehensively on the inside edge as the ball crashes into the middle stump.

Here's the list of hat tricks in Men’s T20 World Cups

Brett Lee (AUS) vs BAN, Cape Town, 2007

Curtis Campher (IRE) vs NED, Abu Dhabi, 2021

Wanindu Hasaranga (SL) vs SA, Sharjah, 2021

Kagiso Rabada (SA) vs ENG, Sharjah, 2021

Karthik Meiyappan (UAE) vs SL, Geelong, 2022

Joshua Little (IRE) vs NZ, Adelaide, 2022

Pat Cummins (AUS) vs BAN, North Sound, 2024

Pat Cummins (AUS) vs AFG, Kingstown, 2024

Chris Jordan (ENG) vs USA, Bridgetown, 2024

Chris Jordan returned with the figures of 4/10 and helped England bundle out the opposition for the low total. Sam Curran, Adil Rashid, Reece Topley and Liam Livingstone were also in the wickets as England wrapped up USA's innings for 115 runs.
Unbelievable feeling ' Chris Jordan after taking a hat-trick
Chris talked about his hat-trick against the USA, saying that it's an unbelievable feeling for him. He also talked about the team's efforts and stated that points matter to them. Speaking to broadcasters, he explained:

"Unbelievable feeling (to take the hat trick), was good to restrict them. Getting it (hattrick) at a special place (Barbados - his birthplace) is always nice. Glad I was able to hit on the target. Just finished it off towards the end.

"We summed up the conditions pretty well, we knew they would come hard at us in the powerplay, the USA have been playing well in the tournament. Rashid set up the game for us. Points first and foremost."

Adil Rashid, Stuart Broad

Adil Rashid, on Sunday (June 23), once again proved his worth as he starred for England in their must-win clash against the USA in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

With England eyeing a big win, they needed to dismiss the USA cheaply and their spin spearhead rose to the occasion. The leg-spinner picked up 2 crucial wickets and conceded only 13 runs in his four overs to help his team bowl out USA for a modest total of 115 runs. He clean bowled Nitish Kumar and captain Aaron Jones in the 9th and 11th over respectively to reduce USA to 67 for 4.

And the 2-wicket haul has also helped Adil Rashid add yet another feather to his already illustrious cap. The world number one T20I spinner is now the joint-highest wicket-taker for England in the T20 World Cup history. He has gone level with his former teammate Stuart Broad. Both Broad and Rashid have 30 wickets in the T20 World Cup.

Broad picked up his 30 wickets in 26 games while Rashid took 29 games for the same. Chris Jordan, who picked up a hat-trick against USA, is third in the list with 24 wickets from 21 games. Graeme Swann and Moeen complete the top five.

Most wickets for England in T20 World Cup:

 • Stuart Broad - 30
 • Adil Rashid - 30
 • Chris Jordan - 24
 • Graeme Swann - 22 wickets
 • Moeen Ali - 15 wickets
 • Sam Curran - 14 wickets
 • Ryan Sidebottom - 13 wickets
Adil Rashid's T20I career in numbers:
Adil Rashid is one of England's most decorated bowlers in T20Is. He also holds the record for taking most T20I wickets for his country. The leg-spinner has picked up 119 wickets in 113 games so far. He is also the first England bowler to pick up 100 T20I wickets.

Apart from him, only Chris Jordan has managed to touch the 100-wicket mark for England in T20Is. Jordan has picked up 105 wickets so far. No other England bowler has even managed to touch the 70-wicket mark so far. Stuart Broad is third on the list with 65 wickets.

Talking about the ongoing game between England and the USA, the defending champions were on 77 for no loss in the 8th over at the time of writing this report. England need to win the ongoing game to stay in contention for a place in the semifinals.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz

Afghanistan batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz came up with a strong message for the Australian Cricket Team after the win in the T20 World Cup 2024. He said that they took revenge for the defeat in the ICC World Cup 2023 and hurt them back.

Afghanistan National Cricket Team scripted history as they defeated Australia by 21 runs in the Super 8 stage of the tournament. This was the first win by the Rashid Khan-led side against the Mitchell Marsh-led in any format of the game as they were exceptional with the bat and ball.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz was the main architect behind Afghanistan's win as he played a sensational innings at the top. The keeper-batter continued his golden touch with the bat and made sure that he took the team to the winning total in the important game of the team.

Opening the batting for the team, Rahmanullah Gurbaz batted with a positive mindset and played some blistering strokes in his innings. He didn't put a foot wrong as he put Australia under pressure right from the start.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz scored 60 runs off 49 balls. He batted with a strike rate of over 122 and also slammed 4 fours 4 sixes in his innings. He stitched a 118-run partnership with Ibrahim Zadran (51) as Afghanistan posted a total of 148 runs on the board.

After posting 148 runs on the board with the bat, Afghanistan had a sensational outing with the ball. Naveen-Ul-Haq picked three wickets at the top while Gulbadin Naib, who won Player of the Match, picked 4 wickets at the back end. Based on their effort, they bundled out Australia for 127 runs to win the game by 20 runs.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz said that winning against Afghanistan meant everything to them as they hurt them back. He said that he was hungry to beat Australia and he was speechless. Speaking in a video posted by ICC, he explained:

"That was everything. They hurt us in the 50-over cup and we hurt them. (Baat Khatam) That's it. I was mentioned this team before the tournament. I am hungry for them. Come on. I can't say anything."
23 is the favourite number now - Rashid Khan
Afghanistan skipper Rashid Khan also talked about the win against Australia, claiming that the third is a special date for them as they beat Pakistan on 23rd October and now Australia on 23rd June. He explained:

'23 October and 23 June, both right in the history. 50-over and 20-over. 23 is the favorite number now. And 23 does the work as well."

Afghanistan now has a real chance to qualify for the semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2024. If India beat Australia and then they beat Bangladesh in their last league game, they most likely will qualify for the semi-final stage of the tournament. They would be keen to win the last game as they are high on confidence and would want to cash on that.

Jos Buttler

England captain Jos Buttler, on Sunday (June 23), starred with the bat by smashing a whirlwind fifty to take his team to the semifinals of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

England had their back against the wall after losing their previous Super 8 game against South Africa and needed a big win against the USA to make it to the last four. And the defending champions reacted in style as they hammered the USA by 10 wickets at the Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados.

Bowling first, England bowled out the USA for a modest total of 115 runs inside 19 overs. Chris Jordan starred with the ball as he picked up a hat-trick and finished the game with figures of 4 for 10. Sam Curran and Adil Rashid impressed with the ball as well, taking two wickets each.

Jos Buttler and Phil Salt had their task cut out when they came out to bat. England needed to chase down the total inside 18.4 overs to make it to the semifinals and their openers did not disappoint. Captain Buttler led from the front to help his side chase down the total in just 9.4 overs.

After England collected only 6 runs from the first two overs, Jos Buttler broke the shackles in the third over by hitting Saurabh Netravalkar for two sixes and a four. He continued to hit the boundaries at will to help England finish the powerplay on 60 for no loss.

The highlight of his brilliant knock came in the ninth over when he smashed left-arm spinner Harmeet Singh for five straight sixes. After Phil Salt took a single on the first delivery of the over, Buttler hit the USA bowler for a six on the second ball to complete his fifty off 32 balls. He then went on to hit the next four balls of the over for sixes as well. Harmeet Singh eventually finished the over by conceding 32 runs.

During his knock, Buttler also hit a gigantic 104-meter six as the ball landed on the roof of the stadium. Here is a clip of that huge six from the England captain:
